Utka, meaning fierce, in Sanskrit, is the ultimate way to describe the pose she will show you how to do. Most commonly referred to as Chair pose, which is a pretty boring name given its literal translation, it is a pose that has benefits for almost all areas of the body. Today we’ll focus on the areas of the buttocks and abdomen, but as a result, you’ll also feel the power in the knees and thighs. This pose, by itself, can be a workout in and of itself. It heats the body, acting as both a general warm up and then really gets the heart pumping to start burning fat and calories. It’s not about sitting as deeply as you can and forcing yourself into a painful state, it’s really just about engaging the areas of focus in a way that is both productive and relatively comfortable. If you only have 5 minutes per day to give your body some attention, this posture is a great place to start!
